The BDT’s back in town

It may not have been obvious to all our dedicated readers, but the BDT has been a little different over the last few days.
The last four editions have been printed in Mildura after technical difficulties brought the printing process to a halt on Sunday night, leaving readers throughout the region without their usual morning paper on Monday.
The problems were due to a damaged laser in a piece of film imaging equipment, an issue that BDT information technology staff attributed to heavy storm activity over the weekend.
Unfortunately, the problem could not be fixed locally and could only be rectified by ordering a new part from America.
As a result the BDT has been unable to print on its premises this week, forcing management to outsource the printing to the Sunraysia Daily.
Staff have been working hard to prepare the paper at an earlier hour and e-mail the pages to Mildura for printing.
Management and printing staff have been making return trips to Mildura each night to pick up the papers and ensure they arrive back in the city in time to be delivered around sunrise.
Assistant General Manager, Rod Niemann, commended staff for their hard work throughout this difficult period, and extended a special thank you to the Sunraysia Daily for their assistance.
“We really appreciate the help from Sunraysia Daily’s Glenn Robinson (General Manager), Rob Donaldson (Print Manager) and all their staff,” said Mr Niemann.
“If it wasn’t for their assistance, and the hard work of BDT staff, the city would have been without a newspaper for much of this week.”
Today’s edition of the newspaper marks the return of printing to the BDT. However, the new equipment may require further calibration and we beg readers to be patient as we work to restore the paper to its full capacity.
