St Joes looking for new blood

Tuesday, 7th February, 2012

CLUB EFFORT: Outgoing St Joes president Peter Nash said the club’s clean sweep of soccer grand finals in 2011 was only made possible through strong off-field support.

St Joes’ stellar 2011 season proved that the team has plenty of talent on the field, but now it’s looking to bolster its off-field stocks.

The club will hold its Annual General Meeting tonight and will be looking to fill a number of positions such as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, along with a new role of canteen co-ordinator.

The club has been presided over for the past five years by Peter Nash, however time constraints have forced him to relinquish the role.

Mr Nash has accepted a role with the new AFL Broken Hill board, and still remains heavily involved with umpiring and Shinglebacks masters football.

“With those commitments something had to give, there’s only so many hours in a day,” he said.

“The club is in good shape on and off the field, so it’s a good time to move on.

“I’ll still be around to offer support where required so all we need is some willing players, parents or supporters to take some additional ownership of the club.”

Tonight’s meeting will also be used to discuss junior and senior coaching positions for 2012, and all prospective coaches are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will be held in the Democratic Club function room at 7.30pm. Anyone unable to attend can still register their interest in a position by phoning Frank Napoli on 8087 2329.

Mr Nash said he hoped to see plenty of support at the meeting to ensure the club maintains its strong position.

“The success of 2011 was the result of many persons volunteering their time to coach, administer and fundraise.

“It was very much a club effort, and when you have players, parents, coaches and supporters all pulling in the right direction, great things happen.”
