It’s all go for junior cricket
Wednesday, 15th February, 2012
The junior cricket competition is set to undergo a number of changes after the Broken Hill Primary Cricket Association (BHPCA) held its AGM on Saturday.
This year the Academy, Joey and Lightning games will be held at the Norm Fox Oval along with the hardball competition, with all games starting at 8am.
The age restriction for hardball has also been modified, and high school children who turn 12 this year are now able to keep playing for the Primary School they previously attended.
BHPCA President Dale Dwyer said there was a “very healthy and enthusiastic” turnout at the AGM and coaching clinics, and thanked everyone for their support.
“The BHPCA committee wishes to thank all of our local schools for their kind support in promoting our sport through their school newsletters, and a very big thanks goes to representatives of the Barrier District Cricket Association, Peter Johnson and Denis Watts, for attending our AGM and pledging financial support towards further development of Junior cricket in Broken Hill.
“A big thanks to Scott Shephard of the Central Cricket Club and his team mates for helping us out, with co-ordination of a coaching clinic for our budding young cricketers while the AGM was in progress.
“The committee for 2012 looks forward to a great Primary Cricket season and urges parents to assist with training, coaching, umpiring and scoring duties.
“Without parental support our association cannot function.”
To find out more, parents may see their child’s Hardball coach, or junior convenors Dave Eckert and Jarrod Burke for Academy, Joey and Lightning players.
Late registrations for the coming season can still be lodged on game day, with all grades able to cater for more boys and girls.
Academy, Joey and Lightning players are reminded that “into cricket” packs, including hats, t-shirts, bags, bat and ball can be purchased for $60 online via www.in2cricket.com.au.
The first games of the season will be played on Saturday. The canteen will be run by Don and Maureen Campbell and will be open throughout the day.
In Hardball Sacred Heart/Central will play Burke Ward on Norm Fox 1, while Morgan Street will face Railwaytown on Norm Fox 2.
