Skaters’ show like ‘dancing on wheels’

SKILL: Annette (11) and Ross Kemp (9) will be displaying their talents this weekend.

The skill and grace of the city’s roller skaters will be on display to the public this weekend.

The Silver City Roller Skating Club is holding its League Competition on Saturday and is opening the doors to interested onlookers.

Sixteen skaters will compete in a variety of disciplines including figure skating, dance, free skating and pairs dance.

The club’s Publicity Officer, Brett Pascoe, said spectators would be treated to an impressive display from skaters of all ages.

“We’ll have skaters ranging from first-time competitors to people who have skated at the nationals,” he said.

“There’ll be a lot of variety and a good blend of different standards.

“We just wanted to open it up to the public so they could see what we’re up to.

“The dance is quite flashy, the skaters are all dressed up and there’s a lot of flare - it’s like dancing on wheels.”

The competition will run from 8.30am to 5pm at the skating rink at the Memorial Oval.
