Trainers flock to top-level course
Thursday, 16th February, 2012
One moment it looked like it was all off and after some frantic emailing and phone calls by various sports clubs, locals and Active Broken Hill it’s all on!
The Level 1 Sports Trainer Course being offered locally this weekend by Sports Medicine Australia (SA) has had one of the greatest responses from any country town and the trainers are really looking forward to coming to Broken Hill to deliver the program.
“The Broken Hill Sporting community has shown unprecedented interest,” according to Mr Clark from Sports Medicine (SA).
“The roll-out of this fully accredited Level 1 Sports Trainer Course is the beginning of lots more training being offered in Broken Hill,” he said.
“With a pool of Level 1 Trainers we can seriously look to bringing the Level 2 Sports Trainer Program to Broken Hill and bring locals up to national standards.”
Trainers learn the most up to date ways of injury prevention and injury management and can work as accredited sports trainers in a wide range of sports across Australia, way beyond local sport.
Opportunities exist for trainers in the Commonwealth Games, The Masters Games and the University Games. More and more community fixtures require trainers to be present at games and matches. Having Accredited Trainers on board raises duty of care and standards of training.
So far 15 of the 20 positions in the course have been snapped up.
Steve Burton, the Chairman of Active Broken Hill, said there was a lot of excitement and anticipation about the course being provided here.
“It costs over three times the amount to go to Adelaide to complete this two-day program so don’t think about it for too long,” said Mr Burton.
“This is a bit of a one-off offering and we don’t want anyone to miss out on this kind of opportunity.
“It is the springboard for lots more training locally so we really would like anyone sitting on the fence to make the move and apply for the sake of their sport if it could benefit from having Level I Sports Trainer.”
The course is on Saturday and Sunday and will be held at the North Football Club.
