TIME FOR A CHANGE: Miles Clothier has had his beard for seven years and now it’s coming off to raise money for leukaemia research.

Miles Clothier has been growing a beard for the past seven years and, after much deliberation, has decided to shave it off in the name of the World’s Greatest Shave.

Miles is among about 125,000 Australians who are expected to give himself a new look to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

He has had the beard for seven years and thought that he might as well shave for a good cause.

“I started growing facial hair to try and get into pubs before I was 18 and then I kept it because I thought nobody else had a beard in Year 11,” Miles said.

“Nothing in particular made me decide to shave. I’m not affected by leukaemia in any way but I thought if I’m going to shave my beard off I might as well do it for a good cause.

“I’m hoping to raise $5000. There are enough people out there who would like to see me without a beard, so they should be able to help.

“I want to see what my face looks like underneath. It is definitely going to be weird for the first couple of months.”

Miles said his girlfriend was apprehensive when he told her what he was going to do but once he told her why she came around.

The beard will be shaved by Cindy Burke from Clip Around the Ears and donation tins will be placed around town.

“I encourage other people to get involved. Maybe we could get a team together,” Miles said.
