Locals smash swim times

Three Broken Hill swimmers have come away from the 12 years and under South Australian State Short Course Swimming Championships with a bronze medal, six top 10 placings and 16 personal best times between them.

Broken Hill was represented in the Adelaide State Aquatic Centre event by Rohan Cutting, Kiara Pressler and Kai Pressler, all from the Silver City Swim Club.

Rohan Cutting won his first ever state medal - a bronze in the 11 years and under 100m breaststroke.

In the process, Rohan smashed his personal best time by more than seven seconds. He also gained four other top 10 rankings by finishing fifth in both the 50m and 200m breaststroke, and eighth in the 50m freestyle and backstroke.

He was the fastest 10-year-old in the State in the 100m and 50m breaststroke and50m backstroke, and the second fastest in four other events.

In addition, he achieved a total of eight personal best times, including an 8.66 second improvement in the 200m breaststroke and a 7.79 second break in the 100m backstroke.

Competing at her first state championship, ten-year-old Kiara Pressler achieved a top 10 placing in the 11 and under 200m backstroke, with an incredible 22.71 second improvement on her personal best time.

Kiara came ninth and finished as the fastest 10-year-old in the State for the event.

She was also the second fastest in the 200m medley, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.

Kiara recorded five personal best times in total, shaving more than four seconds from her 100m butterfly time.

Her brother, Kai, competed in the 12 and under age group in three events, recording personal best times in each.

His personal best time improvements came in the 50m butterfly by 3.19 seconds, 50m backstroke (3.40 seconds), and the 50m freestyle (1.79
seconds).

Silver City Swim Club athletes are now turning their attention to the Playford Aquatic Club qualifying meet later this month.
