LEAGUE:

Saturday’s match saw a similar result to the week before. 

The backline held sway, the boys in the middle did well but we just couldnít find a key forward. 

Having said that the 8.8 we kicked was an improvement on the week before.

For many footballers, both young and old, playing on the hallowed turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground is a dream that will never be realised.

But for 32 young footballers from Broken Hill, that dream is about to become reality this Saturday night, when they take to the ground at half time of the Geelong vs Collingwood blockbuster. 

The AFL is estimating a crowd of up to 75,000 for the rematch of the two teams who played in the 2011 Grand Final.

Pink power pulls in almost $2000

AFL Broken Hill has announced that its recent “Pink Footy Day” has raised $1916.50, which has been donated to the Breast Cancer Network of Australia (BCNA) in aid of breast cancer research and awareness. 

The fundraiser took place throughout round 5 of local football in the middle of May, which coincided with Mother’s Day. 

To mark the event, players from all four clubs wore pink armbands, while players from South and Central went a step further, wearing pink socks for the game.

The field umpires replaced their regular yellow strip with pink shirts to recognise the occasion, while the regular red footballs were substituted with pink balls in the women’s matches.

Greyhound followers in Broken Hill will this weekend be able to enjoy a record breaking day of racing, with 15 races to be held as part of the Greyhound Racing NSW Country Challenge.

Broken Hill Greyhound Club Secretary, Sharyn Gray, believes the 15 races is a track record, surpassing a couple of previous meets which
involved 14 races.

With reduced financial support from City Council, the Youth Council needs help to secure public liability insurance for the event.
