Local State MP John Williams has defended the State Government's plan to slash $1.7 billion out of the education system.

The Member for Murray-Darling yesterday responded to recent outrage from teachers over the cuts and plans for up to 2000 job losses, which were announced earlier this week.

TAFE opened its doors to prospective students yesterday and those who missed the enrolment day will be pleased to know they can still
sign up for courses at the college.

The enrolment day provided the chance for people to ask questions and familiarise themselves with TAFE services and support.

TAFE Broken Hill's Educational Support Officer, Byron Hooker, said the college's business, management, retail, information technology, traditional trades and hospitality courses had secured enough numbers to run in the second semester.

 The TAFE campus has a new manager.

Tuana Sanders replaces Brian Boydell who was relieving following the resignation of the former manager, Scott Dennis.

Ms Sanders was previously the Regional Manager of the Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Service for the Far West Local Health District.
