The aquatic fitness trainer who introduced the idea of the swimming pool workout to Australia 30 years ago is in Broken Hill instructing locals.

Colleen Wilson-Lord and her husband, Dr Brian Lord, are training aqua fitness leaders as guest trainers of the Local Health District.

"The aim of having more locals trained as Aqua Fitness Leaders in Broken Hill is to expand the existing aqua classes on offer for people of all ages in Broken Hill," said regional Health Promotion Off icer Steve Burton.

The Broken Hill Regional Aquatic Centre, the city’s largest public infrastructure project in more than a decade, was officially opened on Saturday.

The curtains were opened on the $11 million complex, marking the end of more than 10 years of work undertaken by three different councils.
