The North Bowling Club is holding a learner's night tonight in a bid to attract new players to the sport.

Club secretary Stella Merritt said it would be held as part of the regular weekly social bowls.

Cheryl Barry has been crowned the 2012 Zinc Bowling Club ladies singles champion after defeating Jenny Garner in yesterday's Grand Final.

It is the second time that Cheryl has claimed the title, after also winning in 2010.

A 26-strong contingent of indoor bowlers from Broken Hill will today begin their tilt at Regional Championship glory in Adelaide.

The bowlers are taking part in the South Australian Regional Indoor Bowls Championships today and tomorrow.

Broken Hill’s bowlers will be taking on representative teams from Adelaide Metro, Para Districts, Golden Grove, Mid South East and Mount Gambier, who are making their debut at the competition.

The BH team is considered to fall within South Australian competition boundaries to eradicate the need to travel to Sydney to compete.

The Broken Hill Mixed Indoor Bowls Association held its annual two-day carnival at the Musicians’ Club over the weekend.

The tournament kicked off on Saturday and involved 90 teams from South Australia, Victoria and NSW.

The Association’s President, George Harris, said that he had been given very good reports about the event which is held over the Easter long weekend every year.

The city’s best male bowlers went head to head at the North Bowling Club over the weekend to decide the singles and pairs “Champ of Champs”.

The singles title was won by Zinc’s Peter Gageler after he defeated fellow club champions Barry Hooker (North) and  Graham Stubing (BH Bowling Club) in a round robin playoff.

Gageler put on a fine display of draw bowling to register the two wins plus 33 shots.
