Hot shots take aim at Lower Light

West Rifle Club members will have success in their sights when they line up in the SA District Rifle Association and Country Teams Championship this weekend.

The shoot will be held at the Lower Light range north of Adelaide, with seven West shooters taking part.

They will compete with 7.62 calibre rifles in the off-rifle and handicap divisions and will be hoping to emulate some of the club’s past success.

Ellysia into Olympic selection trials

BH swimmer Ellysia Oldsen has qualified for the London Olympic selection trials following her record-breaking efforts at the SA State Age Swimming Championships.

The 16-year-old collected seven medals - two gold, four silver, one bronze - and broke two long-standing SA state records at the championships which were held in Adelaide last week.

The Willyama High School student qualified for the Olympic Games selection trials in all seven events she contested. The trials will be held in Adelaide in March this year.

Broken Hill teenager Samantha Betts has been selected as vice captain of the SA Cricket Association’s Under 18s girls’ team for the national championships.

The championships will be held in Ballarat from January 18 to 24.

Coach of the SA under 18s and former Australian test cricketer, Andrea McCauley, said Betts was an opening bowler who had developed in her batting.

 Two young golfers have claimed back-to-back wins in the Junior Golf Championships.

Phoebe Lane showed her prowess with the putter and played some very classy strokes to card just 19 over the three holes and in the process won herself promotion next year.

Luke Hall also claimed the double but had to produce his best at the end of the year to keep the field at bay.
