Councillor ceases contact with media outlets

A councillor who once vowed to always speak out on important issues has had to cease contact with the media amidst a State Government investigation.

Councillor Bob Algate on Friday confirmed he was the subject of a NSW Division of Local Government investigation based on two complaints about breaching the Code of Conduct.

CCTV isn't the City Council's 'top priority' despite the case of murdered Melbourne woman Jill Meagher highlighting its effectiveness in cracking the case, a councillor says.

Footage from a Brunswick boutique provided police with an image of what the alleged killer - who was seen talking with Jill - was wearing on the night of the abduction.

The ALP member was last night elected as deputy mayor for the fourth time since entering local government in the nineties.
