It just wouldn’t be Mother’s Day without flowers and chrysanthemums are most popular of all the blooms. Today is the day when families pop out to pick up a bunch or two of flowers for mum and there is no shortage of places selling them around the city. Picton Plants employee Jan Ryan was pictured yesterday with a lovely selection of “chrysanths” from their garden.

Haul road tops the list

The proposed heavy vehicle haulage road is the most important project for the city in the coming year, according to City Council.

Council’s capital works budget will be capped at $3.5 million for the year, however $16 million worth of capital projects would go ahead using funding from grants and other financial assistance, Council says.

Council’s General Manager, Frank Zaknich, said that the haulage road from the Potosi open cut to Perilya’s south mine was dependent on external funds being received from both the State and Federal governments, Perilya and Council loan funds.

Broken Hill’s own version of “Masterchef” is on this weekend and the three local contestants have a big task ahead of them - cooking for 60 people.

The reality television show “Masterchef Australia” has made waves across the nation and a local woman, Charmaine Byrne, came up with the idea of having BH Masterchef as a fundraiser and for entertainment.

Michael Hanley, Summa Gobell and Glenn Williams are the contestants in the competition.
