For 2011 Pageant Princess, Katelyn Rudd, the annual Christmas procession is all about the children.

“I like seeing the look on the little kids’ faces as they see Santa Claus,” Katelyn, who will be on the Girl Guides’ float, told the BDT.

The Willyama High School student will also help Father Christmas give lollies out to the children at the ‘Party in the Park’ following the pageant.

With only a few days to go before the 2011 Broken Hill pageant, everything is coming together with last minute float entries and the crowning of the Pageant Princess.

South Rotary and event management group, Middlemen, have been organising the pageant which will be held on Saturday.

John Rouse, from South Rotary, had put out a call for more float numbers after a slow start.

No one misses out with Mary. The Crown Princess of Denmark arrived at the Broken Hill RFDS base at precisely 10.25am yesterday where she was met by hundreds of exciited fans, many waving bouquets of flowers.

First up, Aboriginal Elder Maureen O’Donnell along with her granddaughter and Maari Ma worker Lisa Kickett, gave the Welcome to Country speech.

Princess Mary, wearing a gold, green, blue and beige patterned blouse and emerald green skirt then graciously greeted the crowd from behind a waist-high barrier.

The city has been waiting for weeks and now the big day has finally arrived.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark will step off an RAF plane onto Broken Hill turf today at just after 10am and be greeted by locals before a whirlwind tour of the base and a speedy luncheon in the RFDS hangar.

 Bright-eyed School of the Air students are tuning up for tomorrow’s royal performance in front of Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

Sung to the tune of ‘Waltzing Matilda’, the SOTA school song has been practiced on-air for weeks by 50 students from stations surrounding Broken Hill. 

Among the excited youngsters are Abbey Curren and her siblings Riba and Samuel who will journey from Wampo Station near Mungo for the royal event.

SOTA Principal Michael Fisher said the children were now ready for the big occasion.
