Ian Callinan’s football story is out of place in the modern AFL landscape.
It began the same way as many other AFL players; a promising junior career which led on to selection as part of the under 18 All-Australian team in 2000.
The next part of the script was for him to be picked up by an AFL club in the 2000 draft, but that never happened.

Central have stamped their authority on the Under 18 competition with a comprehensive 63-point win over second placed West on Wednesday night.
Hockey competition back on track

Hockey is back and the new season starts next month.
After a doubtful beginning to the season, the Broken Hill Hockey Association has announced the formation of a hockey league to be played in 2012.
Because of strong demand, the games will be played on Saturday afternoons, with the primary and intermediate junior grades starting at 1:30pm and the senior grade at 2:30pm.
At this stage, the Association is still unsure of numbers and will not know until after registration the exact format of the competition.
Hawke eyes more titles

Milton Hawke Jnr and Milton Hawke Snr are confident that Broken Hill can defend its 2011 Australian Championship title.

Broken Hill’s quoits team is ready to defend their 2011 Team and Singles titles at this weekend’s Australian Rope Quoits Championships in Melbourne.
After dominating last year’s meet in Bendigo, Broken Hill will once again be the side to beat when they confront teams from Melbourne, Ballarat, Bendigo and Sydney.
Broken Hill is entering sides in each of the Men’s Singles, Ladies Open, Veterans, Juniors and Team competitions.
Crows a hit with kids

Adelaide Crows players, Taylor Walker, Ian Callinan and Bernie Vince were a hit with the locals after yesterday taking part in school visits, a football night and a coaching clinic.
The players ventured to the Morgan Street School and Taylor Walker’s old school, Broken Hill North Public School, to meet some lucky school students.
Then Jubilee Oval was last night transformed into a sea of red, yellow and blue as more than 200 local kids were treated to the Adelaide Crows’ coaching clinic.
