New high for Ellysia

Willyama High School student, Ellysia Oldsen, has returned home from her most successful national swimming competition ever, with a
monster haul of seven medals and a hand in an Australian school record time.

Competing in the weeklong School Sport Australia (SSA) National Swimming Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park, she claimed four gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

Ellysia won gold medals in the individual 50 and 100 metre butterfly events, highlighted by an impressive time of 28.56 seconds in the 50 metre event.

Savannah Morris has returned from Sydney where she competed in the State Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival at the Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

Savannah, a Year 6 student at Sacred Heart Parish Primary School, competed as part of the Wilcannia-Forbes team.

In the 100 metres freestyle Savannah pulled out a Personal Best (PB) time of 1.11.97 (finishing seventh) and swam a PB of 32.82 in the 50m freestyle to finish 5th.

Ellysia Oldsen has spent the past week at the pinnacle of Australian swimming, competing in the Australian Open Swimming Championships in Adelaide.

The Silver City Swim Club member was one of 834 athletes at the event which doubled as selection trials for the London Olympic Games.

Although Ellysia missed out on Olympic selection on this occasion, she gained valuable experience on the national stage and competed against the cream of the nation’s swimmers.

Renmark swim success

SUCCESS: SC Swim Club produced a number of great results in Renmark. SUCCESS: SC Swim Club produced a number of great results in Renmark.

Twenty young swimmers from the Silver City Swim Club (SCSC) achieved outstanding success at the Renmark Open Two Day Swim Meet held on the weekend. In scorching conditions, the team won 19 medals - 10 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze. They also attained 34 Australian Junior Excellence (JX) times right up to the highest level of gold star, 3 Australian Youth Performance Squad (YPS) standards, and 5 national qualifying times. Despite the extreme weather and tough competition from Adelaide based swimming clubs, SCSC rose to the challenge, recording 41 personal best times (PBs).

Six year old Emerson Chesterfield was the teamís youngest swimmer and competed very well in the 8 years and under 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke events. Kalyce Pressler, at just 7 years of age, achieved 2 excellent green JX times for 9 years in 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke. 

Kalyce recorded 2 PBs and finished 5th in the 8 years and under 50m freestyle. Isaac Stokes (7) also placed 5th in the 8 years & under 50m backstroke. Isaac was rewarded for his dedication to training with 3 large PBs, including 8.42 seconds in the 50m breaststroke, and a 6.10 second time improvement in the 50m freestyle. Seven year old Elkie Philp also achieved 3 great PBs, including a break of 4.08 seconds in the 50m breaststroke.

Ellysia into Olympic selection trials

BH swimmer Ellysia Oldsen has qualified for the London Olympic selection trials following her record-breaking efforts at the SA State Age Swimming Championships.

The 16-year-old collected seven medals - two gold, four silver, one bronze - and broke two long-standing SA state records at the championships which were held in Adelaide last week.

The Willyama High School student qualified for the Olympic Games selection trials in all seven events she contested. The trials will be held in Adelaide in March this year.
