The new YMCA Wellness Centre is coming along in leaps and bounds with completion on track for Christmas.

The construction of the new $5.4 million YMCA Wellness Centre is well underway with YMCA Broken Hill Area Manager Shane Simmons praising the hard work that has gone into the project so far.

“We are absolutely delighted with the progress of the redevelopment,” he said.

“It has been a major transformation of the old YMCA building.

“Several areas are almost complete including the allied health areas, main wellness studio, amenities, staff office and meeting room.”

Mr Simmons said the final fitout is expected to take place by the New Year.

“The site is expected to be handed over to YMCA NSW in December with the final fit out, testing and commissioning expected over the Christmas and New Year period.

“The launch of operations is earmarked for mid-January with transitional arrangements well underway for the local staff team.

“The team is working tirelessly behind the scenes to unveil the centre to the community.

“We recently appointed 17 new staff members at the centre and a suite of new programs are set to roll out from the first day of operations.”

YMCA NSW was awarded $3.9 million from the NSW Government under the Restart NSW Resources for Regions program in January last year to redevelop the site into a wellness centre.

Hutchinson Builders were appointed to undertake the work in April.

Hutchinson Builders site manager Tom Green said construction was coming along well.

“We expect to have the whole roof on by the end of the month.

“A lot of the internal works have been completed.”

Mr Green said a lot of the joinery will be started during the week and most of the tiling has been completed.

“Everything is cruising pretty well, I think the building will be locked up in two week’s time.”
