Crowds of locals and visitors made their way to the Broken Hill Racecourse for the annual Silver City Cup on Saturday.
Whether they were participating in the fashion, placing bets on the races or just relaxing with friends, a great day was had by all who attended.
President of the Silver City Cup Dave Gallagher said despite the hot morning, the cooler day was ideal for race day.
“Weather has been a bit tricky, but it’s to our advantage, it hasn’t been too hot and the wind hasn’t been too bad as well.”
The races were the main attraction with a local victory in the first.
“One of our local horses won the first one so it was great for Heidi Smith, one of our trainers here in Broken Hill.”
The fashions, as always, were a great segment at the Silver City Cup.
Mr Gallagher was impressed with the effort of participants.
“I went over and had a bit of a look (at the Fashions on the Field) and the ladies and gents were all dressed up to the nines, it was a great event as they always are.
“It’s a part of racing, and Rosehill is great and the Cox Plate is great, but there is nothing like the home town of Broken Hill to have our fashions,” he said.
“The crowds have been a bit down as normal but they’re very active, they’re happy, very vocal with the races going on and I think that we’ve had a great day of racing.
He estimated up to 1800 turned out for the event.
“There is a number of other engagements on today, and there’s something on tonight, people have their own events and that’s okay but we’ve had a great day today.
“People have come out and we’re competing against three weddings and there’s a lot of people out here today and they’ve had a great day, they’ve enjoyed themselves.”
Mr Gallagher was grateful to all that attended, and hoped they enjoyed the day as much as he did.
“We’re looking forward to 2019.”
