The new Broken Hill Harness Racing season starts tomorrow night with five races on the card.
Senior Vice President of the BH Harness Racing Club, Tony Camilleri, said he was expecting a good season with quality trainers, horses and fields.
“It’s the first meeting of the new 2018/19 season and we welcome back a lot of old faces alongside new ones,” Mr Camilleri said.
“There’ll be good fields which have brought together horses that are in first-up spells along with ones that’ve raced interstate.
“You’ll find that you can follow the visiting trainers and horses with confidence because they’re race-fit and been racing consistently in the past.
“We’re also quite well supported by the visiting Victorian trainers Eddy Sparkes, David Voslic, Pud McDonald and Peter O’Brien.
“Every trainer and driver is quite approachable to have a chat with. Everyone’s quite friendly and easy-going.
“So if you have a favourite driver and want a selfie with them I can’t see a problem with them doing that.”
Mr Camilleri said crowd sizes for the meetings last season had been “generally very good” and he hoped for a similar turnout this time as well.
“We generally get between six and seven hundred people on any given night,” he said.
“I can’t see that being any different with the new season commencing and a lot of people waiting with anticipation for it to begin.”
He also gave a tip of for a horse to watch out for.
“I think the standout on the card will be a little horse called Lifeplusten.
“She’s a very good mare for local trainer Anthony Adams. She hasn’t been sighted in trials but all reports tell me she’s going very well.”
The fields will be published in tomorrow’s BDT.
