Photo features on iconic poster

The St Patrick’s race meeting posters have arrived and are ready for distribution.
Since the inception of the meeting in 1966 the poster has become a major marketing tool and a much sought-after collector’s item.
“We missed out on having the poster ready before Christmas last year but this year it is all systems go,” said club secretary manager Kimberley Fell.
“The main reason we are well advanced this year is that all of our race sponsors are committed for 2019, so we were in a position to hit the print button nice and early.”
The highly-anticipated illustration for 2019 is not a traditional painting but a stunning photo taken by BDT photographer Gavin Schmidt from March 24, 2009.
It was taken at dawn at the racecourse and shows Boy Lucas ridden by Spog Harvey silhouetted against the finishing post by the rising sun.
“The committee decided on something different for next year and we looked at a great number of photos from many talented local photographers but we picked Gavin’s as it showcases the amazing light at the racecourse early in the morning,” Ms Fell said.
The poster is available from the Visitors Information Centre and Ms Fell is inviting everyone to pick one up and help spread the word.
“We would like anyone who is travelling over the holiday period to grab some posters and put them up on their travels to help promote our meeting.”
