Victory takes a classic

Just one B Grade game went ahead last weekend after Friday’s rain spoiled most of Broken Hill’s cricket action and it was North who took the points thanks to skipper Ben Victory.
Victory ripped through the South Roos batting lineup to take five wickets but it was a spectacular outfield catch that headlined the day.
Positioning himself at the deep mid-wicket boundary, Victory initially seemed to misjudge a skied ball from the bat of RV Kumar before leaping backwards and throwing out his left hand in which the ball stuck.
It shocked all in attendance but perhaps none more so than Victory himself who celebrated with his elated teammates.
Earlier in the day, North set a target of 114 runs thanks to 35 from Anthony Tidball and 20 from Shayne Staker. Matt Reavill bowled well to take three wickets for the Roos but they were helped out by some poor running between wickets by the Dogs which saw a number of run outs.
South’s chase started well with openers Naj Soomro and Reavill adding 40 without much trouble before Reavill smashed a ball to Dylan Millsteed at cover and was gone for 21.
Soomro moved his score to 34 until poor shot selection had him marching back to the sheds and that’s when the wheels started to fall off for South.
Regular wickets continued to fall and would eventually see South bowled out for just 102, handing North a 12-run win and moving them to second on the Credit Union B Grade ladder.
Victory starred with 5-18 while Milsteed also chipped in with a pair of wickets.
The Central and Warriors clash, set for Saturday, was called off due to a damp pitch at the Zinc Oval. The teams tried to reschedule but ultimately had to split the points as an agreement could not be reached.
Next weekend will be the final round of cricket before the Christmas holiday break.
North 114 (A. Tidball 35, S. Staker 20; M. Reavill 3-17) def South 102 (N. Soomro 34, M. Reavill 21; B. Victory 5-18, D. Millsteed 2-20) by 12 runs.
Warriors drew Central (match abandoned).
B Grade ladder:
Warriors 30, North 24, Central 23, South 21, West 19.
