Christmas is just days away and Argent Street businesses are feeling the Christmas spirit with people turning to the local shops for their gifts.
Argent Street retailers have witnessed some very welcome foot traffic this holiday season, with businesses getting busier with each day in the lead up to Christmas.
Peter Nash of Sampsons and Torpys said the stores are expecting an influx of Christmas shoppers in the final days before Christmas.
“Christmas trade in our two stores is improving as we hit the final week and with Christmas Eve next Monday we would expect a bumper finale with many former locals arriving home over the weekend ... Hot weather forecast over the next few days will see locals out early,” said Mr Nash. “Trade during October and November has been very patchy with no continual summer weather to drive sales. This added with the drought and the decrease in Broken Hill roofers has certainly impacted on sales in many businesses, ours included.”
He believes the extra foot traffic is likely due to enhanced parking. “Parking in the CBD has improved with Council’s automated policing of parking spaces, which ultimately benefits the customers,” he said.
“Sampsons has been busy with our accessories very popular as gifts including candles, diffusers, watches and jewellery whilst customers are now stocking up on summer sandals and thongs for all the family,” said Mr Nash.
“At Torpys the final week is always the key, sporting and surfing brands popular in shoes and clothing, add the baseball caps, sunnies and watches and Torpys has a gift for everyone.”
This coming Saturday December 22, both the Sampsons and Torpys stores will have extended opening hours until 3pm for last minute shopping needs.
