Fresh water flows over Tipla Weir

Tilpa has been greeted with fresh water from Easter rain that has started to flow over the local weir.
Residents first noticed the welcome sight on Sunday about 2pm. It then started to build to a steady flow past the Tilpa Hotel at 7pm.
The origins of the flows are the Easter rain in Queensland around Charleville and Cunnamulla on the Warrego River.
That water has come down from the Warrego and met the Darling River just below Bourke.
Tilpa pub owner Phil Mahoney said it had been 12 months since the town last saw water flow over the weir.
“There was a big crowd down there yesterday afternoon to watch it come over,” Mr Mahoney said.
“I mean, when you say a big crowd you’re talking ten or a dozen - that’s all of us.
“Just about the whole town was there to witness it come over the weir.”
Mr Mahoney predicted the water would reach Wilcannia and, with a bit of luck, make it to Menindee.
