Celtic picked up their first A Grade win of the season on Sunday after a quality back and forth clash with St Joes.

St Joes made the early breakthrough with Jyh Stubing hammering home a long range strike but Celtic veteran Anthony Berg evened things up shortly after with his first goal of the season.

Celtic then took the lead thanks to another brilliant long range goal, this time from Greg Ross, but neither side could break away.

They went goal for goal in the second half as Steve Grillett and Daniel Rose added their names to the scoresheet for the Joeys but Celtic kept a step ahead with two goals of their own, including a second to Berg, to run out 4-3 winners.

Berg had a fantastic day on Sunday with his A Grade double coming after a hat-trick earlier in the day for their B Grade side.

The result compounded a poor week for St Joes after it was discovered they played an ineligible player in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Alma. That meant the result was overturned and the competition points awarded to Alma.

In the late A Grade match, the West Panthers made light work of Alma thanks to another Jordan Cox hat-trick.

A week after scoring three goals in West’s 6-3 win over Celtic, Cox was at it again on Sunday as he carved up the Alma Goats defenders with another superb performance. Chris West and Bryant Mitchell also chipped in with one goal apiece as the Panthers secured a 5-0 win.

The Panthers are now 2-0 after the first two rounds and again look like the team to beat in A Grade.

In the other grades, Alma and West drew in B Grade 2-2 while Celtic and St Joes had another shootout with Celtic also coming out on top in that one 6-4.

West proved too good in their women’s clash against Alma, defeating the Goats 3-1 which included an own goal by Alma. Celtic and St Joes played off in the late women’s game with Celtic taking a 2-0 win.
