Having gone win-less from their first five games, Central need drastic improvement if they’re to keep their 2019 season alive at home today against the Bulldogs.

North: 17.8 (110) def Central: 1.5 (11)

Six goals to Shane Dalby and three to Jayden Kelly led North to a huge 99-point win over Central in round three at the Memorial Oval. The Dogs banged on six unanswered goals in both the second and final terms.

North controlled the game from start to finish with midfielders Quinton Beavan and Eddie Morgan dominating around the stoppages and ruckman Trent Barraclough ran rampant to finish with three goals as well.

Central - LLLLL

It has been a horror start to 2019 for the Magpies, losing all five matches up to this point by an average margin of 113 points. They’ve conceded more than 100 points in each of those games and scored just 110 all up in response.

Central have kicked just 15 goals so far in 2019 with Hamish McLean and Josh Joliffe leading the way with three apiece.

North - LLWWL

After a slow start, North picked up back-to-back wins in rounds three and four, including a big upset over South, but couldn’t keep it going, falling to a heavy defeat at the hands of West prior to the break.

Anthony Henderson has enjoyed a good run of form of late with 13 goals from five games. He’ll need to step up again with fellow forward Dalby missing from today’s clash.

IN: H. McLean, J. Heath, S. King, K. Farcich, L. Neal, J. Joliffe, L. Cox, M. Sullivan, J. McClure, L. Barnes, T. Harvey, L. Jenkin, J. Bressanelli

OUT: P. Reincke, M. Muscat, J. Roberts, A. Williams, S. Woodhall, D. Rilen, B. Shipway, S. Beven, W. Campbell, G. Mason, B. Mitchell, A. Killeen, J. Benton

Central have made a whopping 13 changes to the side that was thumped by 176 points in round five. Headlining the inclusions are Hamish McLean, Justin Heath, Kyle Farcich, Matt Sullivan, Luke Neal, Josh Joliffe, Linden Cox and James McClure who all return while talented junior Sinele King comes in for his first League game of 2019.

Defender Matt Muscat, ruckman Sam Beven and utility Patrick Reincke are among the outs.

IN: M. Reberger, M. Dempster, T. Hack, R. Turner, A. Tidball

OUT: S. Dalby, J. Watson, C. Howard, J. Cini, B. Shepherd

Big bodied midfielder Mitch Reberger returns, as do defenders Matt Dempster and Tobias Hack. Junior Rogan Turner comes back into the side along with Anthony Tidball.

Tall utilities Dalby and Jedd Watson miss out and player-coach Codie Howard hasn’t come up after injuring his calf in round five. Youngsters Jakarda Cini and Bailey Shepherd have been shifted back to the reserves.

Central’s inclusions should ensure they put up a far better display than the side did against South in round five but it’ll take a big effort to overcome North today.

The likes of McLean, Heath, Josh Hanford and Jason Masclet will need to star and the supporting cast of Neal, Joliffe, Sullivan and Zayden White need to do much the same if they’re to get their first win for 2019.

North were well off the pace in round five against West but can bounce back quickly today and almost secure a spot in the finals in the process.

They rely heavily on their stars Kelly, Morgan and Beavan but Tyler McInnes, Ben Clements and Barraclough are quickly putting themselves among that elite company with their recent form.

If North play anywhere near their best football then it should be too much for Central to overcome.
