Friday, 12th March, 2010
A brave Year 5 student shaved his head for a worthy cause yesterday. The World's Greatest Shave began yesterday with Burke Ward Primary School having a crazy hair and casual clothes day. To raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation they all donated a gold coin.
One student, Kurt Dickson, heeded the call and shaved off his hair for this cause. Kurt received donations from family, friends and people online. He, along with his school, pledged to raise $500 and Kristie ascoe, the SRC co-ordinator for Burke Ward, said that well over that amount had been raised.
Ms Pascoe said the children were really excited."The kids love having casual clothes day and they're excited to support Kurt," she said."The kids are having a ball." The World's Greatest Shave is an annual fundraiser for the Leukaemia Foundation, it will run until Saturday.
Local business owners, Christos Niarros and Randy Meatheringham, will be shaving their head at the Hair Strand at midday today and people are invited to show their support for this fundraiser.
