A free and confidential sexual health service has been set up at Headspace after a successful partnership with Clinic 9.

Weekly sexual health testing services for young people aged 14 to 25 years will be held by Clinic 9 staff at Headspace every Wednesday from 2.30 to 4.30pm.

Sexual Health CNC Jo Lenton said the partnership had presented a good opportunity to access youth, as they were sometimes marginalised and did’t often choose to approach traditional health settings.

“Headspace is beautiful youth-friendly environment to engage, educate and screen,” Ms Lenton said.

“This is a golden opportunity to talk to a health professional in a confidential setting.”

Ms Lenton said most are well educated overall about sexual health, but some were not because they were unable to find the right information.

She said by working with Headspace, Clinic 9 hoped to break down barriers and encourage people to come for a test if they’re concerned about their sexual health.

“If people are concerned, come in and have a chat, and they’ve got the opportunity to test because it is easy. We need to get that information out to people as well, particularly youth.”

Ms Lenton said clients had only to pee in a pot for the test.

If there are other risks, Ms Lenton said they may take blood, but the vast majority of the time that was not necesary.

To get tested, go to Headspace, 231 Blende Street. For enquiries can call 08 8080 1100 and ask to speak with a Clinic 9 nurse.
