Sturt Park was illuminated with candles last night as more than 2,000 people gathered for Carols by Candlelight.
The organiser, Pastor John Curtis, welcomed the crowd to the 31st Carols by Candlelight, and said numbers were still good despite almost double the number turning out to see opera and stage singer Marina Prior last year.
"Probably the best thing about Carols at night is people waving their candles, the most beautiful view with Sturt Park in the background," Mr Curtis told the BDT.
"Because we've been doing it for 31 years, it's something of a Broken Hill tradition," he said.
Mr Curtis said he had noticed in recent years that people were not singing along along as much as they used to.
Singer Kathryn Martin warmed up the crowd with 'Everybody Get Ready' and the 'Groovy Christmas Dance,' and said later it was always fun to sing at the event.
A parade of singers also took to the stage after dusk to perform a wide range of Christmas favourites such as ‘JingleBells’ and ‘Joy to the World.’
