Good weather and a moderate crowd greeted the opening meeting of the 2010- 2011 harness racing season on Saturday night.

The meeting was dedicated to footy premiers, the Central Football Club, and was marked by great racing.

Each event was won by a different trainer but the highlight was the driving double from young reinsman Andrew Stenhouse.

Race 1 saw the first of Andrew's winners with Join The Club saluting the judges. This was also trainer Alan Rennie's first local winner.

Sniper Cam held the front from the pole with Emma's Nightmare sitting outside the leader and Join The Club enjoying the one by one.

The field remained in that order until the runs came at the 400 metre mark. Join the Club and Take A Gamble staked their claims but Join The Club was too strong. The place getters should be followed with confidence.

Race 2 saw the start of the leader's dominance which continued for the rest of the evening. Ready Set Joe led from the pole with Andrew Vozlic controlling the race to perfection.

He was too strong in the run to the line from the fast finishing Heathburn Bill and Ouyens Eleven. It was good to see the Vozlic stable in the money as he is regular competitor and helps outs with horse numbers when he can.

Race 3 had OK Who's Next, last season's horse of the year, explode from the gate to take up the position as leader with Linvel Jack on his outside.

OK Who's Next was responsible for a good mile rate this early in the season of 2.6.7, the fastest of the night from Smart Cecil and Renrow. All place getters came from the peg line.

Race 4. Dorranelly with her great manners and good gate speed led from the pole and ran the race to suit under the care of stand in reinsman Shane Smith deputizing for the ill Paul Evans.

Second went to the fast finishing Globe Vauxall proving that he is becoming very versatile. Third to Talk About Loaded running on from a long way back.

Race 5. The best bet of the night duly saluted. Heading North provided Andrew Stenhouse with his first training success and the second leg of his driving double. It was great to see.

Colin & Margaret, Andrew's parents, are the behing the scenes workers. Second went to Little Trickster and third to Ragtonni Anne after sitting parked the trip.

Thanks to all who attended our first meeting of the season and we welcome everyone in town to next Saturday's meeting which will be highlighted with the appearance of Santa Claus and face painting for the children.
