A group of avid walkers has donated $2000 to the local respite service, Sunraysia Residential Services.

Sunraysia Residential Services (SRS) had previous provided services in and around the Sunraysia area and have been operating in Broken Hill since the middle of this year.

It offers services and accommodation including respite (emergency and planned), supported accommodation, independent living, training, educational programs, recreation and social opportunities.

The Volunteer Walkers Group's donation bought two armchairs, a cot and bedding for the respite service.

The group has been operating for 27 years and have raised around $84,000 which has been donated to various organizations such as the hospital and nursing homes.

One of the original members, Daphne Coffey, said they walked three times a week, for both recreation and to show visitors around the city centre.

They meet at the Tourist Information Centre at 10am and walk for about two hours.

Each member is asked to give a donation if they can, according to Mrs Coffey.

"It takes us a long time to get all the money ... over the years we have raised $84,000 all from donations which have gone out to charities."

Mrs Coffey said the eldest member was 82 and the youngest 65.
