A job well done

Fireman Brian Pascoe has been recognised for his 45 years of service to the local fire brigade, Brian, 64, started at the station at the age of 19 and is still fighting fires, but there is more to the work than the devastation that accompanies a severe blaze.
"The friends here and the people you meet in the community, it's rewarding," he said.
Now a retained fireman, Brian said he knew the National Medal for 45 years of service was coming, but still felt honoured when he received it yesterday.
It's not the first time he has been honoured by Fire Brigades NSW. In 2006, Brian was one of 10 firefighters who were awarded the Unit Commendation for Meritorious Service for their bravery when they rescued two people trapped by floodwaters.
Inspector Jon Andrews, who presented the award, said he was a valued member of the local fire station.
"Brian's dedicated to his community," Mr Andrews said.
Mr Pascoe said he would continue to serve the community for a little while longer.
"I hope to do 50 years and then I'll retire," he said.
