The sky put on a tremendous show on Saturday night when a thunderstorm hit the city.

Local weatherman Philip Mew said he was surprised the storm produced no rain.

“On occasion, you will get a very heavy, brief shower.”

Mr Mew said the city could expect a lot more thunderstorms and hot weather.

“I would say we’re probably looking at it getting hotter. It’ll be pretty typical summer weather.”

Yesterday was the coolest day of 2011 so far with a maximum of 30 and a low of 16 degrees.

Today the forecast is for 35 degrees with a low of 19.
