A house in Chapple Street was severely damaged when a fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Central Fire Brigade Station Officer, Tim Schofield, said the call came in at 5am and that three engines, two from the Central Fire Station and one from the South, were dispatched.
SO Schofield said the fire took about 10 to 15 minutes to get under control and about 90 minutes to extinguish.
“There was severe fire damage to two of the rooms and smoke and heat damage to the rest of the house,” he said.
“I believe the premises was unoccupied at the time. “We haven’t determined the cause of the fire. It is still being investigated by the fire brigade and the police.”
Fire investigators, detectives and forensic police attended the scene at the northern end of Chapple Street yesterday and are working together to find what caused the blaze.
