Rumours about the city losing its mail sorting services have been stamped out by Australia Post.
The BDT has heard numerous stories about the impending closure of the sorting room at the city's Argent Street post office.
There were suggestions that the mail would be sorted in Adelaide or Sydney, then sent back to Broken Hill for delvery.
Local mail is sorted in the main post office, while outgoing mail is sorted in Adelaide, Bathurst or Sydney.
When the BDT contacted the city post office's manager Richard Thomas on Monday he said he did not know what was happening with the mail sortingbut that there were many changes afoot in the postal service.
But yesterday Australia Post said the rumours were false and that it was business as usual at the post office.
"Broken Hill is not losing its mail sorting room," an Australia Post spokesperson said.
"Mail will continue to be sorted for this area as it has for many years."
