Water tanks never arrived: police
Thursday, 20th January, 2011
Locals who believe they have been ripped off by a rain water tank company are being asked to contact police.
The business, Aqua Conscious, was advertising locally and is now being investigated for not supplying promised goods.
Police said they had received several complaints from Aqua Conscious customers who said they had paid for goods which had not been delivered.
Last October the company ran one advertisement in the BDT offering free TVs, and in some cases free DVDs, with sales of water tanks.
The advertisement stated that payment was to be made by October 17 with goods to be shipped free within a nominated number of weeks.
The BDT ran no more ads after the company failed to pay its bill.
Aqua Conscious also advertised on local radio station 2BH.
Police now want information from the public to help with their investigations.
"Police urge anyone who has placed an order with Aqua Conscious Pty Ltd, made payment for rainwater tanks and who have not received their goods as promised to report the matter to Broken Hill Police on 08 8087 0299 or the Department of Fair Trading," local police said yesterday.
The company is allegedly linked to two other businesses, Columbus Sales Group and Archer Mining Company.
The NSW Office of Fair Trading is also investigating the company following numerous complaints from customers who handed over money but never received their tanks.
Fair Trading has urged those people to contact them on 133220.
"NSW Fair Trading is investigating the failure of the company to provide the water tanks as promised," a spokesman said yesterday.
The Australian website OzRipOff also registered scores of complaints from people in three states - Victoria, Queensland and NSW - who said they had paid for tanks, had not received them and were no longer able to contact the company.
