Motorist led astray

A motorist got lost and bogged in the bush on Wednesday night after following the directions given by his car's navigation system.
The 47-year-old man from Sydney was travelling home from Port Augusta but when he arrived in Broken Hill about 8pm he found that the Barrier Highway was closed so he headed south along the Silver City Highway, police said yesterday.
About 70 kilometres down the road his "navman" advised him to turn left on to a dirt road, they said.
"Unfortunately he followed these direction and after travelling approximately 15 kilometres his vehicle slid off the road and he became bogged," a police spokesman said.
Police were called and members of the local SES also notified and sent a team out.
"About 10pm he and his vehicle were recovered and he returned to Broken Hill safe and well," the spokesman said.
"This is another reminder to all motorists not to rely on GPS navigational devices in rural areas and also, due to recent weather and water, to avoid travelling on unsealed roads."
