Junior footballers will have the opportunity to take their game to the next level in the coming weeks as the Under 16 Greater Western Sydney Giants squad begins training.

The training squad is open to all interested players in the age group, and will focus on high-intensity running, decision making and execution of skills.

GWS Giants academy coach Dale Tonkin said the squad was the ideal place for boys who are looking to get more out of their football.

Standout performers can earn a place in the local GWS Academy, as well as a berth in the combined Broken Hill/Wentworth side to compete at the Zone Trials in Albury later this year.

"It's a great opportunity for local players to test their ability, and it gives them a chance at playing and training with the State's elite," Mr Tonkin said.

"The players can challenge themselves at many different levels - any Under 16 boys are encouraged to come along."

The squad will commence training at 12pm Sunday at the Jubilee Oval.
