Silver City Dance Academy is a new dance school opening next week with the offer of quality tuition by trained local dance teachers.

Kristil Cowdrey, the principal teacher, said a comprehensive variety of dance instruction was available in classical, Irish, jazz, tap, hip hop and contemporary styles.

Mrs Cowdrey said with her school she hoped to foster a love of dance and allow students to achieve what they wanted.

"Whether they are happy to do it as a social activity ... or whether they are aiming for a career in the performing arts," she said.

Mrs Cowdrey has been a dancer for 28 years and teacher for 15. She moved back to Broken Hill after spending five years away training, completing her qualifications and performing in dance and theatre productions.

"I have now studied under world renowned teachers and studio directors and I am excited to pass on my knowledge of dance to Broken Hill," Mrs Cowdrey said.

"My teaching staff are professional and dedicated and we operate out of a fully equipped studio."

The staff includes Le'Neta Edwards, the former principal of Dynamique Music and Dance; Catherine Bransdon who recently toured LA with Glee Australia;

Chloe Vella and a team of assistant teachers.

"We are the only school in Broken Hill who offer trained and qualified local teachers and the only local school who offers contemporary dance classes," Mrs Cowdrey said.

The Synergy Dance Troupe, Broken Hill's premier dance troupe, is also a part of Silver City Dance.

"We are the first school to offer troupes in Broken Hill - performance-based groups for students who wish to study dance intensively."

The Silver City Dance Academy is also the only school offering "Boyzone", which are classes for boys only, adults dancefit classes and jellybeans creative movement classes for toddlers.

"We are the only school in town to offer dance examinations for our students, and to travel interstate to perform and compete ... and to offer workshops with industry professionals. We sponsor them to come here and workshop with our students," Ms Cowdrey said.

People can come a try the academy's dance classes with their "Get into Dance workshops" being held today and tomorrow.
