Motorists fail to heed warning

At least six drivers were booked for speeding in school zones yesterday, despite warnings from police this week to drive carefully.
The law-breakers were fined as part of Operation Compliance 1, which targeted drivers using mobile phones and committing traffic infringements around schools.
The 24-hour, statewide operation coincided with the start of school this week and involved both marked and unmarked police cars.
While final results of the operation were not available yesterday, a police spokesman said that six speeding tickets were issued yesterday morning alone.
