Love still in the air for this pair
Monday, 14th February, 2011
"I've never received a Valentine's card even!" said Mrs Bacich, who was finally rewarded for her patience with a gift of red roses from her husband this year.
But if romance is a bit thin on the ground then this couple more than make up for it with fun, with the two still laughing and joking 50 years on.
When asked what he likes most about his wife, with tongue firmly in cheek John said: "Her cooking."
Pat laughed. "I'm a terrible cook!" she said.
"I've stayed with him because of his sense of humour.
"He's always joking.
"Life's been very good to us."
But the wedding didn't run perfectly.
John Bacich said he was so nervous on the day, he left his gloves at home.
"Me and my best man had one glove each!" he said.
Since day one the pair have been inseparable, Mrs Bacich said.
"we do everything together"she said.
"I can't get away from her!" Mr Bacich joked.
They met while they were both working at the Barrier Miner newspaper.
They've gone on trips exploring Europe, Hong Kong, the United States and Canada together.
Today they are both involved in the RSL.
"We've always supported each other all our lives" Mrs Bacich said.
"I won't say we don't have any arguments," she said.
"But she always wins," said Mr Bacich.
Pat and John Bacich said they have a very tight-knit family.
They have two children, Tanya, 47 and Dean, 42.
Dean lives in the United States and is married to Denise.
His son Jackson, 6, is the couple's only grandchild.
Despite the distance Mrs Bacich said they are always in touch with their grandchild.
Mr Bacich said he never got to meet his grandparents, so he tries to see Jackson as much as possible.
