Sheep thieves at work

Two station properties in the district have been robbed of sheep and valuable machinery.
This week a station owner told Menindee police that about 50 merino ewes had been stolen from a paddock on his property, some time between the end of October and the end of January.
The value of the ewes was not given but police said that they would be worth a decent sum.
"With the current value of sheep and lambs on the market, it is obviously a significant amount of money that the victim has lost," a police spokesman said yesterday.
The other station, about 100 kilometres east of Wilcannia in the Emdale area, was raided by thieves between February 11 and 21, police said.
They stole a modern tipper trailer, a Honda Workmate generator, a yellow 3,000- litre water tank, a Yamaha two-stroke water pump, two 20-litre fuel tanks, a fibreglass-handled axe and hose fittings.
