Party HQ for young racers
Monday, 28th February, 2011
Young racegoers will be able to party in an airconditioned marquee this year.
St Pat's race club's secretary manager, Cheryl Krutli, said the idea for a marquee came after a review of last year's meeting and public feedback on the club's website.
Mrs Krutli said the venue had been popular with visitors and locals.
"We have had so much interest. At this stage it is mainly the girls who are booking but that is to be expected. We know the local boys can be a bit slow," Mrs Krutli said.
"We have an area in the Gary Radford Pavilion where we look after those who choose to spend the day in air conditioned comfort but we had a few emails saying what about one for those who want to party.
"After looking at what other race clubs do, in particular what was set up at last year's Mildura Cup meeting, we came up with our Party HQ."
In order to help create a party atmosphere the club has entered into a cross promotion with local Radio Station, Hill FM.
"We spoke about the concept with Station Manager, Damien Fisher, and he and his team have come on board. Hill FM will host the marquee and will be making sure everyone has a great day," Mrs Krutli said.
However, she said that in order to make the site viable the club decided to keep the cost down.
"The Mildura marquee was priced at $130.00 which included drinks but we have kept our price to $65.00 and people can purchase their drinks from the marquee bar," she said.
The price of the ticket will allow entry into the races and Party HQ and will include finger food throughout the day. The marquee will also host its own fashion parade .
Mrs Krutli said the club has put a limit on the number of tickets available;
"We need to do this for logistical and licensing requirements," she said.
"With caterers and bar staff to organise, plus we had to book the marquee in December, we have capped the numbers so it is the old cliche - 'first in best dressed'."
The club also has a special membership offer for those booking into Party HQ.
"For an additional $10.00 we will include a full membership package for these people," Mrs Krutli said.
"When you add it all up, for $75.00 they can become a member with all the benefits and get to spend the day partying at the races."
Mrs Krutli said that with only three weeks until the races, the Party HQ was expected to sell out within a fortnight.
Tickets are available at the St Pat's office in Crystal Street.
