Emergency services teams scoured bushland around Olary yesterday after an abandoned car was discovered 10km east of the township.

The white Ford sedan was found at the base of MacDonald Hill by police on Wednesday, and subsequent investigations showed that the vehicle was registered to a woman who is listed as missing.

State Emergency Service teams from Whyalla and Kapunda along with police from Cockburn and Mannahill set up a makeshift base atop MacDonald Hill and began searching for the woman around 11am.

A fixed-wing aircraft, four-wheeled motorbikes and horses were all used in the search which covered a radius of 10km from the hill.

After finding no sign of her, the search was called off around 3pm.

Police said it appeared likely that the woman's car had broken down while travelling towards Broken Hill and that she might have hitched a ride into town.

The 19 year-old woman is described as being caucasian, 178cm tall, 70kg, with long blonde hair often worn in a ponytail.

Anyone who has seen the woman or has any information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact police on 131 444.
