Mayoral hopefuls facing public
Tuesday, 24th November, 2009
Locals will get the chance to grill most of the city's mayoral candidates tonight at a public forum being held at the Legion Club. Organiser Damien Fisher said yesterday that the forum was an opportunity for the candidates to put their ideas directly to the public. Each candidate will get seven minutes to explain why they should be the city's next mayor before answering questions from the public. Mr Fisher said that eight of the 11 mayoral candidates had indicated they would attend the forum. He said Tom Kennedy, Ray Steer and Darren Flowers said they would not be attending because of prior engagements. The forum gets underway at 6pm. "The aim of the whole thing is to make it informative, and make it short and sharp. We hope to have it (finished) by 8pm," said Mr Fisher, who is the general manager of 2BH/Hill FM.
