The Eisteddfod Society's secretary Pauline Rauert has been honoured with life membership for her 40 years of service.

Mrs Rauert was one of the five founders of the Eisteddfod in 1970 and she said it was "great" to be recognised.

"I think it's an honour to be looked on as a life member," she said.

"Originally there was nowhere for people to perform so we decided to hold a couple of concerts and we filled the Entertainment Centre every time," Mrs Rauert told the BDT yesterday.

Mrs Rauert worked for the Eisteddfod for nine years after the first one before taking over a music shop but kept up her close association with the Society and in 2006 she returned to take up a permanent role.

Meanwhile, the 42nd Annual Eisteddfod schedule is set to be released next week, and it can be collected from Broken Hill Music, the South Newsagency or the city library.

Entrants are reminded that entries close on Friday, June 3.
