Police reports Police reports

Someone has attempted to uncover a grave site at the cemetery, according to police.

They said the lid to the grave was pushed back and a hole dug over the coffin area which was about 75cm deep and 30cm round.

A police spokesman said there did not appear to be any other damage and City Council staff placed the dirt and the lid back on the grave site.

He said the incident happened sometime between April 1 and April 18 but was only reported to police on Wednesday.

Theft condemned

Police have condemned the theft of a sprinkler system from the yard of the Menindee school principal over the long weekend.

They said the plastic poly pipe sprinkler system was stolen sometime between 5pm on Friday and 10am on Wednesday.

"Those responsible have cut the pipe off at the tap area and taken it away," a spokesman said.

"This will cost a considerable amount of money and time to replace and with all the positive interaction that the school at Menindee has with the community, this offence is most concerning."

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Police on 8087 0299 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333000.

Meanwhile, police are also investigating the theft of a handbag from an Argent Street deli on Wednesday morning.

They said the bag was taken from the office sometime between 8.30am and 11.30am.
