Tennis dynamo to compete in the US
Thursday, 19th May, 2011
Junior tennis dynamo Danielle King will soon be showcasing her skills in America, and she's hoping for a little help along the way.
The 15-year-old was selected to compete in California through her membership of the Far West Academy of Sport's combined tennis squad.
The four-week stay will include games at the Fallbrook Junior Tournament and three other tournaments in and around San Diego.
"I'm really excited. It will be a good experience just seeing everything overseas and how they do their tournaments," said Danielle.
"It will be a lot different. I think the players will be more experienced and play a lot more than the people out here.
"But I think I'll go alright. As long as I play my best I'll be happy."
Danielle plays regularly in the local Ladies and Mixed tennis competitions, and is arguably the city's best junior female tennis player.
Her game features solid hitting from the baseline - namely a powerful cross-court forehand - and great speed and court coverage.
But while Danielle has all the skills on the court, her family said they would welcome any financial support from the public to cover the $4,550 cost of the trip.
Andrew and Alison King said they would hold raffles and possibly a trivia night in the lead up to Danielle's departure on June 28, and any other financial contribution would be appreciated.
Local businesses in particular are invited to sponsor Danielle, as sponsor's logos and business names will be worn during the tournaments.
Anyone who is able to help Danielle are invited to contact Andrew and Alison on 0439 917 311.
