Young ladies ready for debutante
Friday, 3rd June, 2011
Six young ladies will take to the stage at the South Football Club's Debutante Ball tomorow night.
The debutantes will be presented to Brian Johns who has many years of service and passion for the club, according to one of the conveners, Michelle Rolton.
Fay Rolton will be the Matron of Honour and will introduce the debutantes to Mr Johns.
The flower girls, Bronte and Abbey Johns, will assist Mr Johns and Mrs Rolton during the presentation.
Once again, the Master of Ceremonies will be Grahame Semmens.
Michelle, who has been running the ball since 2008 along with Penelope Dennis, said normally they have 11 or 12 girls but this year they were down to six.
"But we have numbers already for next year. We are hoping to get more next year," Michelle said.
Michelle said that the debutantes and their squires have been working hard for the big night.
"They have been training hard since February under Maureen Ide," she said.
"They have been practicing the correct etiquette, dances and official presentation."
Michelle also said the parents have been coming to training to learn a dance.
"The girls' and boys' families and friends will be coming. There is a quite a lot of interest. We've sold quite a lot of tickets," she said.
Michelle said she really enjoys organising the Ball and couldn't do it without the help of the South Football Club volunteers.
"We get a great buzz out of it and we always have a lovely bunch of kids," she said.
"I am grateful for all the support Penelope and I get from volunteers at the South Football Club. The volunteers pull together and help us pull it off. I thank the volunteers who give us so much assistance."
Tickets are available for $55 from Penelope on 0428 884 369.
