Truck crash blocks road
Monday, 6th June, 2011
The Silver City Highway was blocked to traffic after a truck carrying mineral sands material overturned on Friday morning.
Police said the accident happened about 11.30am as the B-double, which was carrying 38 tonnes of material, was travelling south on a straight section of the highway.
A spokesman said the driver lost control of the laden vehicle after he tried to correct his trailer which had wandered off the road.
The vehicle tipped onto its side and slid 50 to 100 metres before coming to rest on one side of the road.
The driver, who was uninjured, kicked the windscreen out and hailed down a passing motorist who called emergency services.
Police said the driver was expected to be charged with negligent driving.
The prime mover was extensively damaged.
